Epipen Bill Closer To Becoming Virginia Law

A bill presented to the General Assembly after the allergy death of a young girl at a Chesterfield County school is on a fast track to becoming law.

The bill would require the stocking of epipens at all Virginia schools. Lawmakers say had it already been law, it could have saved the life of seven-year-old Ammaria Johnson, who died after eating a peanut at Hopkins Elementary School.

The bill would also require schools to have someone at the school at all times who knows how to use the epipen.

Henrico Delegate John O'Bannon thinks the bill will be law before the start of the 2012-2013 school year.

"I know there's going to be another student who has a reaction in Virginia, it's going to happen," said O'Bannon. "By getting this out to the schools, it's our best chance to keep from another life from being lost."
