DINWIDDIE COUNTY - A Virginia State Police tactical team was shot at during an overnight standoff in the 16000 block of Boydton Plank Road, according to investigators, and a Dinwiddie Sheriff's sergeant was hurt in a struggle with the suspect.

The situation began as a domestic dispute late last night, said State Police spokesperson Sgt. Thomas Molnar. A Dinwiddie Sheriff's sergeant responded to the scene, and got into a physical altercation with the male suspect, resulting in minor injuries to the sergeant.

The suspect then went into his home and barricaded himself with his teenage son. A State Police tactical unit arrived around 3:00 a.m., and authorities say the man fired shots at their vehicle. None of the officers were hurt.

The standoff ended around 5:00 a.m. after investigators entered the home and arrested the suspect without incident. Sgt. Molnar says the man, who has not yet been identified, will face multiple charges.

Boydton Plank Road was shut down in the area for several hours while police were on scene, but the road re-opened before 6:00 a.m.
