COLONIAL HEIGHTS - Fire displaced five people at Colonial Heights apartment building early Monday morning, but investigators said there is minimal damage.
The flames started near the water heater in a utility room of one apartment around 3:30 a.m. The residents made it outside safely. Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the building, but were able to extinguish the fire quickly.
Residents in the adjacent units were evacuated as a precaution, but no injuries are reported. Fire authorities said there is very little structural damage, but residents from two units are not able to return yet because their gas and electricity was turned off. The Red Cross is assisting them.
