Former Dinwiddie Deputy Indicted On Felony Charge

Release from Virginia State Police:

A former Dinwiddie County Deputy-Sheriff, Jeffrey C. McKenney, 32, of Petersburg, was indicted Tuesday on one felony count of obtaining money by false pretense.

The indictment stems from a criminal complaint by the Dinwiddie County Sheriff's Office in November of last year alleging McKenney committed fraud while on-duty. The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation Richmond Field Office conducted an investigation and presented the case to a Dinwiddie County Grand Jury.

McKenney turned himself in early yesterday morning. Apr. 17, 2012. McKenney was given a $2,500 bond pending his arraignment on May 8, 2012 in the Dinwiddie County Circuit Court.

According to Dinwiddie County Sheriff D. T. "Duck" Adams "I would like to inform the citizens of Dinwiddie County that this incident occurred before I took office on January 1, 2012. When I took office, I did not re-appoint McKenney as a deputy-sheriff."

The state police investigation is on-going.
