POWHATAN COUNTY - One person died after a pickup truck ran off the road in Powhatan County on Tuesday night.

According to State Police troopers on scene, the driver hit a culvert after swerving off Huguenot Trail (Route 711) near King William Woods Road, west of Route 288. The truck slid down the hill at the side of the road.

"Unfortunately during that time period, the driver may have not been wearing his seatbelt," said Sgt. Ray Phillips with Virginia State Police. "He was partially ejected out of the vehicle while it was being dragged down the road."
