8News Exclusive: Chesterfield Trainer Charged With Secretly Recording Woman Speaks Out

Posted: Updated:

CHESTERFIELD, VA—A Chesterfield man accused of secretly filming a woman without her knowledge, spoke exclusively with 8News about the charges.

Craig Lamont Kirkpatrick, 40, of the 5700 block of Harbour Ridge Rd, was arrested May 15, 2012 and charged with unauthorized filming of another and assault.

Kirkpatrick spoke exclusively with 8News at a court appearance Thursday.

8News Reporter: "Did you record anyone?"

Kirkpatrick: "No, not at all. Not at all."

8News Reporter: "Is this is a misunderstanding?"

Kirkpatrick: "I would say it's a misunderstand, and that's all I have to say about that."

Police say Kirkpatrick secretly filmed a female client inside his home, where he works as a personal trainer.

The victim, a 21-year-old female, told police she discovered what appeared to be a recording device in the bathroom at the home of her personal trainer.

Police say the victim took the recording device and left the house, but before she could leave the area in her car, Kirkpatrick confronted her and took the recording device.

Kirkpatrick was arrested May 15 and released on bond.

Paramedics wheeled Kirkpatrick from his home May 16, just before 1 p.m. after he suffered a medical emergency.

Kirkpatrick is due in court in July.

Craig Kirkpatrick released this statement to 8News:

"The recorder found by the woman was an audio recorder used to record 'audio' notes regarding clients progress, much like that used by a physician;  not a video recorder.  It was dropped by accident in the cleaning process, readying the bathroom for her use in between clients.

"Upon noticing the absence of the recorder, I went to ask her about it as she left, as the information on it is confidential to each client, and she proceeded to run into me with her car and then drag me down the road.  I have pressed charges against her for theft and aggravated assault.

"The events and charges have been a surprise and I thank you for respecting our privacy."
