HANOVER, VA—The man accused of killing his estranged wife and wounding her boyfriend was arrested and charged Wednesday, and is due to make his first court appearance Thursday.
Ryan P. Markham, 33, of Mechanicsville, was charged with first-degree murder, aggravated malicious wounding and two counts of the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Sabrina Markham was shot and killed June 2. She was found dead in a closet. A male victim, her boyfriend, was found beside her, suffering serious injuries, according to police.
Police arrested Ryan Markham after he was released from VCU Medical Center. He was injured in the June 2 attack by returned gunfire, according to police.
Markham is being held without bond in the Pamunkey Regional Jail in Hanover County. He has a Thursday court appearance.
9-1-1 tapes released from the night of the murder show Sabrina Markham called 9-1-1 moments before the shooting.
According to court records, Sabrina Markham told the dispatcher that Ryan Markham was at her home with a shotgun. Records shows that a male voice was heard saying "You've got children, buddy," before gunshots rang out.
Friends 8News spoke with said Sabrina was afraid of her estranged husband.
"She's been just kind of scared with the whole situation," said Kristi St. Mary. "She kept telling me that she knew he was going to snap any day now, she could just tell."
Markham had a protective order granted against her estranged husband, Ryan, two days before her murder.
A fund has been established at the Village Bank on Mechanicsville Turnpike to benefit the children on Sabrina Markham, the Hanover mother gunned down and killed Saturday.
Donations to the "Sabrina's Boys" Fund are now being accepted at Village Bank, 8051 Mechanicsville Turnpike.
