Kim Schumacher reports for 8News at 5, 5:30 and 6

She grew up near Poughkeepsie, New York, which is about 90 minutes north of New York City.  She attended the State University of New York at Oswego, where she earned a Bachelor's Degree. Then she continued her education at Syracuse University, where she earned her Master's Degree in Television, Radio and Film, with a concentration in broadcasting.

Kim began her journalism career reporting for NewsCenter 6, a small cable station near Poughkeepsie. Then she spent two years reporting for a CBS station near Athens, Georgia.

In 1998, Kim moved on to a station in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She spent nearly six years on the sunny Grand Strand, covering everything from hurricanes and tornadoes to police officer murders.

In 2001, she won a scholarship from the South Carolina Broadcasters Association. That same year the Poynter Institute, a leader in the journalism industry, accepted her for a very competitive position at a one week, intensive reporting seminar in St. Petersburg , Florida.

In her free time Kim enjoys reading, listening to music, skiing and spending time with her family and friends.
