RICHMOND, VA. (AP) - A new initiative is taking on childhood obesity in Virginia.
Hundreds of central Virginia children are expected to be part of the launch Thursday of a community effort to increase awareness of the problem of childhood obesity.
Called 'Movin' Mania," the initiative is led by Bon Secours Virginia Health System. The Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth is also a part of the launch, which will include a rally, a dance performance and other activities at the Science Museum of Virginia.
Sponsors say the initiative is designed to reach 100,000 children and families. Future activities include a 5K walk next spring.
