CHESTERFIELD, VA— Police received reports of two different bears in two different counties Friday morning.
Chesterfield police received three different reports of a bear in the Summerford Dr. area.
Police said they received calls at 6:09, 6:30 and 7:45 a.m. from people reporting they had seen a bear.
The bear was last seen running back into the woods. Police and Animal Control said they are not actively searching for the bear.
Approximately three hours earlier, a bear in Henrico County was stuck and killed by a driver on I-64 west at Gaskins Rd.
State police said the crash occurred at approximately 2:45 a.m., when a driver hit the bear which had walked into the roadway.
A second driver later struck the bear which was in the roadway, but did not stop at the scene, according to police.
The driver who initially hit the bear stopped at the scene. The driver's car received minor damage, according to police.
The approximately 250 lb. black bear died at the scene, according to authorities.
No one was injured in the crash.
