UPDATE: Police have added a felony count to the charges against Richard Lawrence, the man accused of driving under the influence, and operating the vehicle which struck an SUV head-on, killing 1 person on June 16 in Hanover County.  

Lawrence has been charged with Aggravated Involuntary Manslaughter, which is a felony. 

He is currently free on bond, and is expected to appear in Hanover County General District Court on September 18 for a preliminary hearing.

UPDATE: Police have identified the deceased victim of the June 16 crash in Hanover County, which also left four others--including 3 children--injured. 

Police name 55-year-old Mary T. Hoover of Henrico as the woman who was killed in the wreck. Hoover was in the passenger seat of Richard E. Lawrence's vehicle, which crashed head-on into an SUV. Hoover was transported to the VCU Medical Center, and later died there of her injuries. 

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who has information about it to call Hanover Police at (804) 365-6140 or Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.

Hanover, VA—Hanover police have arrested 56-year-old Richard E. Lawrence in connection with the June 16 Hanover County crash which resulted in the death of a female victim.

The crash occurred on Pole Green Road in Hanover County June 16, at approximately 9:00 PM. The car which Lawrence was operating struck a Chevy SUV head-on, leaving four individuals—three of them children ranging in age from 2 years to 7 years old—with injuries. The passenger in Lawrence's vehicle, an adult female, succumbed to her injuries and died at the VCU Medical Center.

Lawrence himself was injured in the crash, and remains at VCU Medical Center. He has been charged with Driving Under the Influence, and additional charges may be presented as the investigation continues.

Police are asking for anyone who may have witnessed this crash to call (804) 365-6140 or Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
