SPOTSYLVANIA, VA—A Spotsylvania man has been arrested and charged with indecent liberties with a child.
Edward Vincent Zottoli, 61, of Spotsylvania, was arrested and charged Thursday with four counts of indecent liberties with a child while in a custodial role and one count of forcible sodomy.
Police said a 14-year-old boy told them Zottoli had sexually assaulted him. The boy was befriended by Zottoli at church, according to police, and was referred to as "Brother Ed."
The victim told detectives he and his brother spent the night at Zottoli's home on Short Circle, earlier in the week.
The victim was asked by Zottoli to sleep in the bed with him, while Zottoli was nude, according to police.
Zottoli asked the victim for a massage and then sexually assaulted him on two occasions and requested the juvenile perform acts upon him, police said.
Zottoli made admission consistent with the victim's statements during an interview with a Spotsylvania detective and Spotsylvania social worker, according to police.
Police said Zottoli admitted to other offenses that occurred years ago in another country while he was serving in the armed forces.
Zottoli had contact with the victim and other juveniles when he was "counseling" them and purchased items for them, police said.
Police said the victim's parents contacted authorities June 20. Following an investigation, Zottoli was arrested June 21.
This investigation is on-going and the Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office encourages any other juveniles that have had contact with Zottoli to contact the office at (540) 582-7116.
