BELLEFONTE, Pa. (AP) - Jerry Sandusky's lawyers say they asked to resign from his child sex abuse case on the eve of trial but the judge turned them down.

Defense attorney Karl Rominger said Saturday he and co-counsel Joe Amendola made the motion as jury selection began but Judge John Cleland ruled against it.

Rominger says the exchange took place in chambers and the motion was filed under seal.

Rominger and Amendola have repeatedly argued they didn't have enough time to properly prepare for a case involving allegations of serious sex offenses and a lengthy grand jury and police investigation.

Sandusky is spending his first full day in jail after being found guilty of 45 child abuse counts. He has maintained his innocence.
