Richmond,
VA—A Powhatan man pled guilty
today to one count of production of child pornography. James Edward May II of Powhatan faces up to 30 years in prison for his crime.
According to court documents, in May 2011, James Edward May
II, 41, used a cellular phone to create pornographic images of two children,
ages four and seven. A forensic investigation revealed evidence that May had downloaded
a number of pornographic images and videos featuring children to his personal
computer and cell phone from the Internet. The investigation also exposed
evidence that between November and December of 2011, May distributed child pornography
images, using his cell phone.
May was arrested in 2011 on charges of possession of child
pornography, and has been held in federal custody since that time.
Neil H. MacBride, United States Attorney for the Eastern
District of Virginia made the announcement of May's plea today, after it was accepted
by United States District Judge Henry E. Hudson.
May faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15-years'
imprisonment and a maximum penalty of 30-years' imprisonment when he is
sentenced on November 2, 2012. In addition to a term of imprisonment, May will
be required to register as a sex offender in any U.S. jurisdiction in which he
lives, works, or attends school.
