RICHMOND, VA. (AP) - Two Virginia companies will receive $1 million federal grants to advance clean energy developments.
Charlottesville's Virginia Diodes Inc. will use the grant money to research equipment for a fusion science experiment, developing a high frequency receiver system required for its diagnostic instruments.
Fm Technologies Inc. in Chantilly will use its grant to develop high efficiency, high-power sources for use particularly in cancer treatments. The power sources are expected to be more compact, more energy efficient, last longer and provide improved cancer therapy treatment.
The companies were two of 104 nationwide that received grants from the U.S. Energy Department to support high-tech advancements.
