RICHMOND, VA. (AP) - The Richmond area is marking Civil War history this weekend - the final engagements of the Seven Days Battles.
This weekend marks the 150th anniversary of the Battles of Glendale and Malvern Hill. From June 26 to July 1, 1862, Union and Confederate armies led by George B. McClellan and Robert E. Lee fought five major battles over the Confederate capital of Richmond.
Among the events planned is a program Saturday with the Gravel Hill Community Center. The families of Gravel Hill were the only free African-American community situated between the warring armies.
Sunday, a march to Malvern Hill will involve more than 150 Union and Confederate living historians. The National Park Service says accommodations will be made for extreme heat conditions forecast for the weekend.
