UPDATE: Per Verizon, the text message service problem which left Richmond and Roanoke customers unable to send or receive texts has been resolved. No cause of or explanation for the issue was supplied.

Richmond, VA--Central Virginia Verizon customers have been reporting problems with text messaging service since the morning of July 1.
Area customers say they can't send or receive text messages; when they try, error messages appear on their cell phone screens.
Verizon representatives say that they are aware of the "scope" of the problem, and are actively working to resolve the issue. No estimated date of repair was given.
