LAWRENCEVILLE, Va. (AP) - Virginia State police say three passengers were killed Sunday in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 85 in Brunswick County.
State police said in a release that a 2002 Ford Explorer driven by Jose Ayber Jr. experienced mechanical failure, swerved, lost control and flipped several times, ejecting three of the seven occupants.
Two passengers died at the scene and another died on the way to the hospital. Ayber and the three other passengers were taken to several hospitals.
State police identified the victims as Ayber's wife, 22-year-old Crystal Ayber, of Glyndale, N.Y.; his sister, 8-year-old Tiffany Cadral, of North Bergen, N.J.; and his mother, 43-year-old Noella Oliveras, of North Bergen, N.J.
Authorities ruled out alcohol and weather as factors In the crash. Those killed weren't wearing seatbelts.
