RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - State and local emergency personnel and Dominion Virginia Power will respond to a simulated nuclear emergency next week at the North Anna Power Station.
The Virginia Department of Emergency Management will lead the exercise, which is intended to help state and local governments test their response to a radiological emergency. The annual drills rotate between the Surry and North Anna nuclear power stations.
Personnel from Caroline, Hanover, Louisa, Orange and Spotsylvania counties will participate in Tuesday's exercise. Police will practice traffic control, and local and state radiological monitoring teams will take simulated field readings and communicate by radio.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency will monitor the event, analyze the results and share its findings at a public meeting July 13.
