BLACKSTONE, VA—Police have arrested a person of interest in the case of a double homicide in Blackstone.
The person was arrested on a charge unrelated to the shooting death of a pregnant woman and her boyfriend, police said Friday.
Brian Jones, 27, and his pregnant girlfriend, Jazmine Morrison, 21, had only moved into their home on Pickett Ct. a few months before their bodies were discovered by a neighbor, according to family.
Police said a neighbor went to the home to check on the couple and found the back door open and their bodies inside.
"My son is a loving, caring person," said Andrea Fowlkes, Brian's mother. "He'd go out of his way and do anything for anybody, and this did not have to happen to my son nor his girlfriend."
Neighbors told 8News they never noticed an altercation at the home, and never heard any gunshots.
"It's a scary situation; it's a tragedy that it happened," said Nancy King.
Mayor Billy Coleburn said he's spoken with the Police Chief, and authorities are following up on leads.
"I believe police are trying to make contact with some individuals," said Mayor Billy Coleburn.
Meanwhile, a grieving mother wants closure.
"I just want it to be over and done, and find out who did this to them, because it was not fair," said Fowlkes.
Police said the person of interest was interviewed, and the investigation is ongoing. The person's name has not been released.
Anyone with information about these crimes is asked to please contact the Town of Blackstone Police Department at (434) 292-3322 or the Nottoway County Crime Solvers at (434) 645-7111.
