King William, VA—Fire crews from multiple vicinities battled a house fire Sunday evening, after a lightning strike set the structure ablaze.
At approximately 7 PM July 8, the owner of the home, located on Epworth Road near Aylett, reported hearing a loud cracking sound. It soon became apparent that the roof of the home was on fire, and emergency officials were called to the scene.
Firefighters from King William, Mangohick, Frog Level, Doswell and Walkerton worked to halt the blaze in Sunday evening's blistering heat. As a result, 2 firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion. No other injuries were reported.
Crews were able to extinguish the flames; the home sustained considerable smoke damage, as well as direct fire damage to the roof.
