HENRICO, VA- Police have released the name of man found shot to death early Wednesday morning.
Police said the body of Ricky L. Ellerbe, 33, of Henrico was found behind a home near the intersection of 20th Street and Carroll St. early Wednesday morning.
Officers said Ellerbe died from a gunshot wound. The shooting is being investigated as a homicide.
The body was found lying face down by a citizen just after 6:00 a.m. Wednesday, according to police.
The scene was taped off as police investigated. Richmond Police are assisting with the investigation.
Later Wednesday morning, as Henrico Police notified the victim's family at their home, the family's pit bull ran from the backyard toward a Henrico officer. That officer then pulled out his service weapon and shot the animal, according to the victim's family.
A second body was found early Wednesday morning on Elberon Court in Henrico County, police said. The death is not considered suspicious, and authorities said the two incidents are not connected.
