Richmond, VA—Following
a day of warm, muggy temperatures and scattered showers, severe storms and ominous-looking, rotating clouds rolled into central Virginia
Sunday evening.
Many
counties were under severe thunderstorm warnings earlier in the afternoon, and
experts warned citizens to brace for storms that could produce torrential rain
and damaging winds.
Multiple
reports of rotating cloud formations surfaced right before the 7:00 PM hour. Viewers
from Chesterfield, Hanover,
Henrico and Spotsylvania counties, as well as
other locations, snapped photos of ominous-looking clouds rolling through the
area, and reported severe lightning.
The
storm cell that produced the clouds tracked west across central Virginia; areas of the West End, Hanover, and Louisa experienced the most
severe weather. Reports of downed trees came in from Buckingham
County (on Buffalo Road), as well as Hanover County (near Studley).
Meteorologist
Jason Myers said the severe weather had moved out of the central Virginia region by 8:00
PM Sunday night. Isolated storms and scattered showers remained a possibility through
the remainder of the evening.
More
severe weather is predicted mid-week, when a cold front will move into the
area. Stay with 8News for updates.
