CHESTERFIELD, VA—A police standoff and hostage situation that lasted six hours ended peacefully early Wednesday morning in Chesterfield County.

Police went to a home in the 3600 block of South Belmont Road to serve an arrest warrant around 10 p.m. Tuesday night.

The suspect, Gregory Keith Moore, 45, of Chesterfield, refused to come out of the house, police said.

A one-year-old child was in the home with Moore. The standoff was treated as a hostage situation involving a child, police said.

A SWAT team and police talked with Moore for hours, but he refused to come out.

Around 3:30 a.m., Moore surrendered peacefully, police said.

The child is now with other family members. No one was injured during the incident.

Police went to the home to serve an arrest warrant after a woman reported being assaulted by her husband.

Gregory Keith Moore has been charged with assault, battery and damaging a phone line to prevent a family member from calling police.

Moore was arrested and taken to the Chesterfield County Jail where he is being held pending a bond hearing.
