Possible "Downburst" Uproots Trees In Mechanicsville

Posted: Updated:

Hanover, VA--Strong winds and heavy rain uprooted trees and caused minor damage in a Mechanicsville neighborhood Wednesday evening.

A downburst is defined as a strong downward current of air from a cumulonimbus cloud, usually associated with intense rain or a thunderstorm. In this incident, heavy rains lashed homes in the community as large trees were uprooted. Porches on some homes were also partially damaged.

No one was injured in this incident.
