Deltaville, VA—A
fire destroyed the main building and John's Pavilion at the Deltaville Maritime
Museum in Deltaville
Wednesday.
Fire
crews battled the blazing fire for nearly four hours, which appeared to have
started under the pavilion, and then spread to the main building.
All
of the boats housed under the pavilion were totally destroyed, including the W. A. Johns, a three-log bottom
canoe that was donated to the museum by Chesapeake Bay
Maritime Museum
in St. Michaels, Maryland.
The
four main display rooms in the main building were also destroyed.
Firefighters
from Gloucester, Mathews, Upper MIddlesex,
Waterview, Urbanna, Hartfield, as well as Lancaster
responded to the scene.
