HENRICO, VA—One person was displaced after a clothes dryer caught on fire at an apartment complex in Henrico County.

Henrico County fire crews responded to the Aspen Station Apartments complex in the 1500 block of Forest Run Dr. around 11:15 a.m. Saturday.

A resident at the apartment complex, Justin Kornfeld, said he put clothes in the dryer and then got in the shower, but that a few minutes later he smelled smoke and saw the fire.

"I immediately pulled the clothes that were in the dryer out, put them on top, ran to my phone and called 911," said Kornfeld.

Twelve people were evacuated from the apartment, but were able to return once fire crews extinguished the fire.

Korneld, who had just moved into the apartment Sunday, was unable to return to his apartment, which sustain smoke damage. He says he hopes he can salvage some of his belongings.

One resident said fires like the one Saturday aren't new to the apartment complex.

"It's like every time I turn around, the fire trucks are in this one building," said Sharron Connor.

Management at the apartment complex declined to comment on the fire.
