FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (AP) - A crackdown on student meal debts is paying off for the Spotsylvania County school division.
The School Board warned parents earlier this year that students would be offered milk and a sandwich for lunch if they exceeded charge limits on their meal accounts.
Since the policy went into effect April 1, parents have paid nearly $29,000 in meal debts.
School Board member Amanda Blalock tells The Free Lance-Star (http://bit.ly/SQ6QU4) that the revised policy is working. But board member Ray Lora says it's not working as long as there is a deficit.
