An assault charge against Petersburg's City Manager has been placed on hold after a court hearing Monday morning.
William E. Johnson III was charged in February with assault of a family member after an alleged incident involving his wife. In court Monday, a judge nolle prossed the misdemeanor charge after a motion by the Commonwealth.
Johnson has completed an anger management and marriage counseling course.
In a statement following the court proceedings, Petersburg Mayor Brian Moore said the city will meet to discuss the case and Johnson's status at a closed meeting in August.
