DINWIDDIE, VA—Police have identified the driver of a pickup truck in a fatal wreck in Dinwiddie County on Monday.
Herbert J. Davis, 74, of Dewitt, was killed during the single-vehicle accident, police said Tuesday.
The wreck happened just after 1:00 p.m. Monday near the intersection of Shadeblake lane and Courthouse Road in Dinwiddie County.
Police said Davis was driving on Route 627 when he ran off the right side of the road two different times and then struck the guardrail. When Davis hit the guardrail, the truck was sent across the road, crossing the center line before striking the opposite guardrail.
The truck went through the guardrail and down a 20-foot embankment before overturning in a creek. Police said the vehicle then rested on its roof in approximately eight feet of water.
Davis, who police said was not wearing a seatbelt, was the only person in the vehicle. A dog was rescued from the truck.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation as police wait for the results of an autopsy.
