Woodbridge, VA—A four-year-old boy was killed during an accidental shooting in Prince William County on Wednesday.

The shooting happened in a vehicle in the 14800 block of Empire Street in Woodbridge. A family member called police at 3:25 p.m. to report the boy had been shot.

The boy suffered severe injuries from a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

The Washington Post reported the boy found the gun inside an unoccupied vehicle that belonged to a relative.

Police said the shooting appears both accidental and self-inflicted. No other injuries were reported in the shooting.

The child's name has not been released. Police continue to investigate.
