BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) - A pilot and four passengers escaped injury when a small plane crashed into a fence during an emergency landing in Blacksburg.

The Roanoke Times reports that strong storms were moving through the area when the Piper PA-24 Comanche crashed Friday afternoon at the Virginia Tech-Montgomery Executive Airport. State Police Sgt. Rob Carpentieri said he didn't know if weather was a factor, but that the Federal Aviation Administration would investigate.

Carpentieri said the pilot, 50-year-old Scott Leighton Musser of Niceville, Fla., told investigators that the plane's engine quit. Carpentieri said the plane is registered out of Niceville, but he did not know where the flight originated.
