Posted: Updated:

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Gas prices have been steadily rising in Virginia this month, but they remain lower than last year at this time.

The Triple-A reports that fuel prices nationwide are 21 cents cheaper per gallon than a year ago. As of Friday, the national average price for a gallon of regular self-serve gas was $3.49. That's up 4 cents from the previous week.

In Virginia, the auto club says the price of a gallon of gas is significantly lower - $3.35.

Since July 2, the national average retail price has increased almost on a daily basis.
