A Richmond broadcasting legend joined the 8News team Wednesday.
Gene Cox joined the 8News family as the co-anchor of 8News at 5:30, taking the anchor chair next to our own Amy Lacey.
Gene brings with him decades of broadcast news experience and an intimate knowledge of Central Virginia.
After a brief career as a school teacher in Maryland, Gene began TV news broadcasting at WSVA-TV (now WHSV) in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
He went from there to WMAR-TV in Baltimore in 1970 and then to WWBT-TV in Richmond eight years later. For the next 33 years Gene covered local, national and international stories.
During this time Gene also worked as a reporter and won several awards, including two Emmys. His reporting took him abroad on several occasions, including assignments in Russia and Africa.
The entire 8News family is honored to have him aboard.
As always, you can also join Juan Conde and Christina Feerick for 8News weekdays at 5, 6 and 11.
