RICHMOND, VA—A SWAT team responded to a home in Richmond after the suspect in an earlier assault barricaded himself inside the home early Friday morning.

Police responded to a report of an assault near the area of Terminal Avenue and Jefferson Davis Highway around 5:30 a.m. Friday.

The suspect fled to a trailer home in Rudd's Trailer Park located at Terminal and Columbia Streets.

Police said they received a call that the suspect had overdosed, and SWAT teams responded when police received reports that the suspect had guns inside the home.

Residents in surrounding trailers were evacuated, police said.

SWAT members were able to see the suspect, inside the home. The suspect appeared unresponsive, and when SWAT members knocked on the door of the suspect's home, he did not answer.

SWAT members entered the home and located the suspect who was described as disoriented. He was transported to VCU Medical Center.

Charges are pending against the suspect, whose name has not been released.

Police said the assault victim and the suspect were not related. The victim received non-life threatening injuries during the assault. Police said it's believed the suspect was hit with a firearm.

Police have not confirmed if guns were found with the suspect, but officers did say they removed evidence form the home.
