Richmond, VA—Governor Bob
McDonnell announced the lowest increase in Virginia college tuition rates and fees in a
decade on Wednesday.
Undergraduate students at public colleges and
universities won't have to pay as hefty a tuition bill as in past years, due to
what the Governor calls "the continued commitment of reinvestment" of his
administration.
The 2012 General Assembly allotted $230 million in
additional general fund support to Virginia
institutions of higher education. The funds are slated for use in 2012-2014.
Gov. McDonnell also noted that the additional funds
from the General Assembly will help Virginia's
colleges and Universities meet the goals of the 'Top Jobs' Virginia Education
Opportunity Act, introduced in 2011. The Act aims to produce an additional
100,000 college graduates by 2025.
