NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - A Norfolk phlebotomist will spend two years in prison for stealing the identities of more than a dozen patients.
U.S. Attorney Neil H. MacBride says the identity information stolen by 28-year-old Fairon Williams was used in a fraud scheme.
Williams was sentenced Monday in federal court in Norfolk. He had pleaded guilty earlier to engaging in aggravated identity theft while working in a Norfolk medical office.
MacBride says Williams gave about 14 patients' identity information to Christopher Moore. Moore used the information to open credit card accounts in the victims' names. He also obtained fraudulent loans from the Navy Federal Credit Union.
Moore is serving an eight-and-a-half-year sentence for his role in the scheme. Another co-defendant, Darnell Barnwell, is serving more than four years in prison.
