8News heard the cry for help when 400 local kids needed school supplies, and we jumped into action.
Over the course of just two weeks, 8News employees brought in school supplies and personal items, in an effort to help Chesterfield and Richmond students be as prepared as possible at the start of the school year.
We are very proud to have met--and exceeded--our goal of filling four backpacks! We also gathered over $100 in donations, all going to help students in need. 8News anchor Ava-joye Burnett and Technical Media Opoerator Nick Hollomon spearheaded the effort, and coordinated with the Chesterfield Department of Social Services to find out what the children needed.
Nearly 1000 bookbags full of supplies have been donated, but about 100 students still need help: call Kathy Perun at 804-751-4398 at the Chesterfield Department of Social Services to find out how you may assist these students in need.
The deadline for donations is Tuesday. 8News wishes to thank all of our staff members who have donated, as well as members of the public who took part in this great cause.
