RICHMOND, VA- Police have arrested two men in connection with a series of shootings in Richmond on Monday night.
One person was killed and four others were shot in five separate shooting incidents. Police said they do not believe the shootings are related and that they believe the events are isolated and not random.
Mahki R. Hopkins, 24, of the 3500 block of Skipping Rock Way, was charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony in connection with a shooting on Lenmore Street.
The shooting happened around 10:11 p.m. in the 1400 block of Lenmore Street. The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to VCU Medical Center. The victim's name has not been released.
David D. Tinsley, 24, of Chesterfield, was charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony in connection with a shooting on Caulder Court. The shooting happened around 12:05 p.m. in the 3800 block of Caulder Court. The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Richmond Police originally reported they had arrested Garry T. Morgan for the Caulder Court shooting. Morgan has not been charged with any crime.
No arrests have been made in connection with three other shootings that took place Monday night.
In a third shooting, police said Lorenzo P. Miliam, 37, of Richmond, was found shot to death in the 1500 block of Treehaven Drive around 8:30 p.m. No arrests have been made in connection with Miliam's death. Police are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
Police said one man was shot in the leg during a shooting in the 3300 block of Midlothian Turnpike in a fourth shooting. It happened around 8:03 p.m. The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries, according to police. No suspect information has been released.
A fifth shooting happened in the 1500 block of Pollock Street around 10:27 p.m. The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries, according to police. No suspect information has been released.
This year, there have been 22 homicides in Richmond, according to Richmond police. This time last year, there had been 19 homicides. In 2011, there were a total of 37 homicides.
