No Charges After Dinwiddie Boy Found In Hot Car

Posted: Updated:

DINWIDDIE, Va. (AP) - A prosecutor says no charges will be filed against a Petersburg police officer whose son was left inside a hot truck in Dinwiddie County.

Dinwiddie Commonwealth's Attorney Lisa Caruso tells the Richmond Times-Dispatch that the officer wasn't responsible for the July 18 incident.

Caruso says the officer's 18-month-old and 4-year-old children apparently wandered outside the family's home and got into the truck after he fell asleep inside the residence.

Caruso says the 18-month-old boy was left inside the truck. But authorities couldn't determine the details.

The officer's name hasn't been released.
