Tampa, FL—After a racially-charged incident directed at an African American CNN employee at the Republican National Convention on August 28, two people were removed from the convention hall.
CNN reports that two people, who have not been identified, threw peanuts at a Black CNN camera operator, and then said "This is how we feed animals."
Republican National Convention security and police immediately removed the individuals from the Tampa Bay Times Forum.
CNN issued the following statement about the incident on Tuesday evening: "CNN can confirm there was an incident directed at an employee inside the Tampa Bay Times Forum earlier this afternoon. CNN worked with convention officials to address this matter and will have no further comment."
The RNC also released a statement, condemning the actions of the individuals: "Two attendees tonight exhibited deplorable behavior. Their conduct was inexcusable and unacceptable. This kind of behavior will not be tolerated."
The Republican National Convention began Tuesday, August 28; severe weather delayed the start of the convention by a day. It will continue through Thursday, August 30.
