Richmond Fire is investigating a playground fire at and East End elementary school.
Crews were called to the 2000 block of North 28th Street around 4 a.m. Sunday morning for what was originally believed to be a building fire. Firefighters instead found a playground behind Woodville Elementary Schools in flames.
The fire was put out in just a few minutes, but the equipment was destroyed.
Richmond Fire officials said the fire is considered suspicious.
This is the second richmond elementary school playground to burn in the last couple of years. Richmond fire officials said there was a similar incident at George Mason Elementary, also on North 28th Street, back in 2009.
In 2010, a playground at Fairfield Elementary School was also set on fire.
It is unclear if the incidents are all connected.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.
