HANOVER, VA-A 17-year-old girl from Hanover County was upgraded to good condition Tuesday after being struck in the head by a bullet in Henrico's West End early Sunday morning.
The teen remains in the hospital after she was struck by a bullet which passed through the rear window of the car she was riding in. Police said the girl was leaving a party at a home on Hilbingdon Road when the shooting happened just after 1:00 a.m. Sunday.
8News spoke with neighbors, who said the owners of the house were out of town, and a party was thrown by home owner's son, a senior at Mills Godwin High School.
"We don't want this in our neighborhood, and we understand things happen, bad things happen in good neighborhoods," said neighbor Jan Closter.
Police said some uninvited guests showed up at the party, prompting a scuffle. Police said they have not identified the parties involved in the fight. They also don't know if the shooting victim was targeted or hit by a stray bullet.
"It's a quiet, lovely neighborhood, family neighborhood, you don't hear of this happening around here," said Closter.
Police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
