HANOVER, VA—Heavy traffic is expected in the Mechanicsville area ahead of this weekend's NASCAR races.
The NASCAR Nationwide Series 250 race will be held Friday, September 7, at 7 p.m. It is expected that race traffic will affect the afternoon rush hour commute.
On Saturday, September 8, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series 400 race will start at 7 p.m. Traffic is expected to be congested on Meadowbridge Road all day, with the most congestion occurring mid-morning and late evening, before and after the race.
Drivers traveling on I-295, the Route 301 (Chamberlayne Road) or the Route 360 (Mechanicsville Turnpike) exits are recommended as alternatives to the Meadowbridge Road exit. In addition, drivers are encouraged to avoid Atlee Road, especially Saturday, and utilize Shady Grove Road as an alternative.
Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and avoid traffic congestion that will be caused by this event.
