RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The Richmond Ambulance Authority has unveiled a public service announcement on YouTube aimed at getting pedestrians to stop, look and listen before crossing the street.

The "Crossing Alert" video was funded with a $5,000 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The message, which is delivered by a local rapper and aspiring songwriter who works for the ambulance authority, also targets distracted drivers in an effort to reduce the growing number of pedestrians and cyclists hit by cars while crossing the street.

Ambulance authority chief executive Chip Decker says a pedestrian is hit by a vehicle once every three or four days in Richmond.
