Hopewell Police are stepping up investigations after a rash of vehicle inspection sticker thefts in the city.

Since the start of June, there have been 24 inspection stickers stolen from vehicles, along with several plate tags and license plate thefts.

Hopewell's police chief, Chief John Keohane, said criminals are reselling the stickers at street value.

"There's a market for it somewhere," said Keohane. "I don't know where that market is yet. For example, if somebody needs a thousand dollars worth of work on their vehicle to get an inspection and they can't afford it, there's that market for those stolen inspection stickers."
