WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) - Colonial Williamsburg is offering free online access to an electronic field trip examining the country's political system and election history.
The historic area says the program, called "The Will of the People" will be available for no cost during September.
The program examines the presidential election of 1800. Colonial Williamsburg says the election was one of the most bitter in U.S. history.
In a re-enactment, Thomas Jefferson explains how negative campaigning, partisan politics and contested elections have been a part of the U.S. political system for a long time.
The distance learning programs are targeted to grades 4-8 and are supported with multi-disciplinary lesson plans, interactive student resources, program scripts and other materials to help teachers make history exciting and relevant for students.
