CULPEPER, VA. (AP) - The husband of a woman fatally shot this year by a Culpeper police officer who now faces murder charges has been found dead, but authorities say the man does not appear to have been a victim of foul play.
The Virginia State Police said in a news release Tuesday that the body of 62-year-old Gary D. Cook was found by a maintenance worker in an apartment that morning. State police said they were investigating Cook's death and that his body had been taken to the chief medical examiner's office in Manassas for an autopsy Wednesday.
Media reports in Charlottesville reports that Cook had brought a multimillion-dollar wrongful death suit after his wife, 54-year-old Patricia A. Cook, was fatally shot on Feb. 9.
The Culpeper Star-Exponent reported last month that Harmon-Wright was fired in June and faces a January trial on murder and gun charges in the unarmed woman's death.
