RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A conservative organization has released state inspection reports detailing multiple health and safety violations at three Virginia abortion clinics.
The Family Foundation of Virginia obtained the reports through the state's open-records law and distributed them to media outlets Wednesday, two days before the Virginia Board of Health is scheduled to vote on new abortion clinic regulations.
One clinic was written up for having spilled blood and conception material in the bottom of a freezer. Another didn't change the cleaning solution in a sink every time dirty instruments were brought in.
Family Foundation president Victoria Cobb says most Virginians would consider the conditions unsafe, and in some cases "utterly disgusting."
Clinic officials say the foundation is exaggerating and note that the clinics were licensed to operate after the inspections.
