Victim Identified In Rusk Avenue Shooting

RICHMOND, VA—A person was shot and killed in Richmond on Friday evening.

The shooting happened in the 3700 block of Rusk Avenue.

The victim's identity has not been released. It is unclear if any arrests have been made.

RICHMOND POLICE PRESS RELEASE:

The Richmond Police Department has identified the woman shot to death Friday afternoon as Keonna Watkins, 20, of the 4000 block of Ferguson Lane.

Officers were called to the 3700 block of Rusk Avenue about 4:40 p.m. to investigate a report of a "person shot." When they arrived, they found Watkins sitting in the driver's seat of a vehicle in the middle of the roadway suffering from a single gunshot wound to her chest.

She was transported to VCU Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Detectives have spoken with a number of people who live in the area who say they heard a loud argument followed by several gunshots. They do not believe the shooting was a random act.
